NX Filtration and Haskoning Collaborate to Enhance Water Reuse with Nanofiltration Technology

The partnership focuses on deploying compact, high-quality water treatment systems that remove micropollutants, supporting industrial, agricultural, and drought resilience applications worldwide.

Industrial water filtering firm NX Filtration and sustainability engineering partner Haskoning will collaborate on improving water reuse capabilities for mobile wastewater treatment provider’s Nereda Verdygo Package Plants for projects around the world.

The project will utilize NX’s nanofiltration system and provide for decentralized and higher quality water treatment solutions, the companies say. The Nereda Verdygo Package Plant uses its own granular sludge technology to treat wastewater close to the source.

The partnership will integrate NX’s hollow fiber nanofiltration into the mix, which can remove many micropollutants, such as pharmaceutical residues and salts. The tandem will be deployed in regions facing water scarcity and discharge restrictions.

“Water reuse is becoming increasingly important in regions across the world where water availability, water quality and environmental regulations continue to tighten,” NX Filtration CEO Floris Jan Cuypers said in a statement. “By combining the flexibility and compact footprint of the Nereda Verdygo Package Plants with our Hollow Fiber Nanofiltration technology, we can help deliver high quality reuse water locally, with limited chemical usage and a relatively low energy footprint.”

The solution is intended for industrial water applications. Last year, sludge repurposing firm Waterboard Limburg opened a Nereda Verdygo Package Plant close to its wastewater treatment facility in the Netherlands. This mobile installation was part of a collaboration with Waterboard Limburg, equipment construction firm SBE Eijsden and Haskoning.

The Nereda Verdgo plants utilize aerobic granular sludge with compact bacterial granules which purify the sewage while settling occurs simultaneously. The process also removes nitrates and phosphates within the single tank, according to reports.

The latest collaboration between NX Filtration and Haskoning could facilitate water reuse solutions in agricultural irrigation, industrial process water and drought resilience programs.

Only days after the Haskoning collaboration was announced, NX Filtration secured its largest order to date. The company will supply its HFNF technology to the new Minnesgärde drinking water treatment plant in Östersund, Sweden.

Many regions around the world face water scarcity crises. United Nations scientists have warned that nearly 4 billion people face severe water shortages for at least one month every year, if not more.
