MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A new report from Foley & Lardner LLP shows a steady increase in water technology patents since 2009.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The latest annual report from Foley & Lardner LLP has shown that water technology patents are on the rise, according to an article from the Milwaukee Business Journal.

The total number of water technology patents issued between 2009 and 2012 has risen steadily, with 471 in 2009, 377 in 2010, 395 in 2011 and 557 in 2012, the article reported.

The report is based on all U.S. utility patents issues from 2009 to 2012, noted the article.

Scott Anderson, an attorney in Foley & Lardner's intellectual property department who compiled the annual report, attributes the early dip to the recession and the recent growth to the rise of water purification technology, continued the article.

According to the article, the patents included the following categories of technology: purification, desalination, metering, irrigation and groundwater.
