QUA wins contract to supply FEDI Fractional Electrodeonization Technology at Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass LNG terminal

CANONSBURG, Pa., Feb. 9, 2016 -- QUA® has been awarded a contract to supply its FEDI® Fractional Electrodeionization technology for the RO permeate polishing demineralizing process to support Cheniere Energy's addition of liquefaction services to its Sabine Pass LNG Terminal.

This project is the third phase of expansion to supply water to the facility's liquefaction operations and will add an additional 30% capacity to the water plant. FEDI was also used in the previous two phases. This brings the total water flow rate at this plant to 4,185 gpm (951m3/hr) making it one of the largest electrodeionization (EDI) systems installed in the world.

The water is used for injection for compressor turbines for methane, propane and ethylene; wash water for gas turbines and other utility make-up uses. The feed water to the terminal is from a local utility, and the water requires further treatment to produce high purity water with low conductivity and silica content for the plant's uses.

"This has been an exciting project for us and is a great showcase for the dual voltage fractional electrodeionization process. It really demonstrates on a large scale how well the technology can perform downstream of a single pass RO system," said Fred Wiesler, QUA's Director of Sales and Marketing.

With patented dual voltage technology, QUA's FEDI technology represents the next generation of electrodeionization technology for the production of high purity water. Developed taking into account the limitations of conventional EDI, the FEDI process improves the reliability of EDI for the production of high purity water.

QUA will showcase FEDI and its other leading-edge products at the AMTA/AWWA Membrane Technology Conference, Booth 330, which takes place in San Antonio, February 1-5. Its portfolio also includes Q-SEP® hollow fiber ultrafiltration modules, CeraQ™ ceramic ultrafiltration membranes, and EnviQ™ flat sheet submerged ultrafiltration membranes.
