EMMABODA, Sweden — Sept. 29, 2015 — Xylem Inc. produced its 4 millionth Flygt wastewater pump at its Swedish facility, according to a press release, becoming the first international pump manufacturer to produce this amount of pumps at one facility.
The latest pump will operate at the central pumping station in Azaibah, Muscat, Oman, noted the release. The station pumps wastewater to the Al Ansab treatment plant eight kilometers away.
The 100-year-old Flygt brand includes submerged pumps, the non-clogging N-impeller and wear-resistant hydraulics, stated the release. In addition to the Sweden facility, Flygt pumps are also manufactured around the world in China, India, the U.S. and Argentina.
The 4 millionth pump is 2.85 meters high, weighs 5,300 kilograms and can pump 500 liters per second at 66.9 meter head, reported the release. Its monitoring system allows for operational safety and data review.
"Producing 4 million wastewater pumps at this facility is a testament to the illustrious legacy of Xylem’s Flygt brand and the significant impact this brand has had, and continues to have, on solving water issues worldwide," said Saud Salim Ambusaidy, senior maintenance manager, Haya Water — Oman, in the release. "This central pumping station is a crucial part of the sewage system in Oman — we need reliable, robust pumps to ensure that we provide a dependable service. Since 2006, Xylem has supported us to do this and we are confident that the company will continue to facilitate an efficient water service into the future."
Flygt produced the first submersible drainage pump in 1947, and the first submersible sewage pump in 1956, shared the release. The largest Flygt submersible pump can pump 535,600 m3 of water, or 214 Olympic-sized swimming pools, in 24 hours.
"As the original submersible wastewater pump, the Flygt pump transformed the wastewater industry and we have continued to innovate since that time. We are very proud of the brand’s rich heritage and this 4 millionth Flygt wastewater pump will play a key role in supporting a sustainable environment in Oman," explained Tomas Brannemo, Xylem senior vice president and president of transport, in the release. "I also look forward to many future milestones and believe the expertise, innovation and market-leading technology at Xylem will ensure customers always have the most advanced and efficient water pump solutions in the industry."
