Washdown water from a tank truckwash operation was flowing at 30 gpm, containing 5 ppm BETX and 10 ppm oil. The client was changing GAC seven times a year to be in compliance with discharge regulations. This amounted to 7,499.1 pounds of carbon per year at a cost of $6,274.2 with labor costs at $7,221.60. The solution was to add an extra filter vessel with 2,000 lb EC-100 organoclay in front of the GAC. At $1.40/lb, organoclay replacement cost after one year service is $2,800. A device that removes phosphorus contamination from water won important validation from the NASA-funded Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP). The program offers free technical help to small businesses through U.S. Space Program expertise. The device, called the Knight Nutrient Reduction Device (KnuRD), was created by Jay Knight, president, Doug Nelson, vice president of science and technology, and Mark Noga, vice president for marketing and distribution, at Knight Treatment Systems. Amiad Filtration Systems unveils its next generation thread technology, the MT-44 - a 45 m3h/200 gpm, 3-μm, automatic, self-cleaning, string-wound, cassette filter. It’s made of stronger construction with denser thread windings than former models which has increased the removal efficiency of the filter.
